Implicit Affect and the Intensity of Motivation: From Simple Effects to Moderators

This article reports findings from a program of research on the systematic influence implicitly perceived facial expressions emotions effort mobilization in cognitive tasks. Recently published implicit-affect-primes-effort (IAPE) model (Gendolla, 2012) has revealed replicated evidence for this effect: sadness, anger, fear, and happiness effort-related cardiac response during performance. In further support IAPE model, those studies that effects processed emotional differ systematically: Implicit fear sadness are online task performance render tasks subjectively more difficult, resulting relatively high effort. anger have opposite effect. Moreover, objective difficulty incentive moderated effect implicit affect, especially controlled processing affect primes turned out to be boundary condition.
